Ants Management

Ant control can be difficult, but there are some things you should know about how ants’ behavior can lead to big headaches for you and your home:

  • Entry: Ants can enter through even the tiniest cracks, seeking water and sweet or greasy food substances in the kitchen pantry or storeroom areas.

  • Scent trails: Ants leave an invisible chemical trail, which contains pheromones for others to follow once they locate the food source.

  • Nest locations: They can nest about anywhere in and around your house; in lawns, walls, stumps and even under foundations.

  • Colony size: Can number up to 300,000 to 500,000 and whole colonies can uproot and relocate quickly when threatened.

  • Colony Lifetime: A colony has a relatively long lifetime. Worker ants have been known to live seven years and the Queen Ant as long as 15 years.

  • Do - It - Yourself Shortfalls: Most do-it-yourself Ant Control items from off the shelf only kill the ants you see. Some truly effective treatments that can penetrate and destroy nests have to be used by professionals to help prevent these pests from returning. Also, home remedies don’t account for the fact that different kinds of ant infestations require different treatments. This is why you need to engage Major’s Pest Management.

Gel Baiting for Ants

Gel baiting relies upon the biology and behaviour of ants. Gel Bait consists of an attractant that attracts the ants. After the ants consume the bait, they bring some back to the colony and the bait is shared within the colony via Trophyllaxis. Other ants are subsequently eliminated. Gel baits are applied in inconspicuous areas such as: beneath kitchen sinks, cracks & crevices in broken tiles, door frames, kitchen cabinets, shelving units, etc. Again emphasis on safety as they are placed away from the reach of children and pets.

Residual Spray Application for Ants

Residual spraying is a treatment method for all Crawling Insects. Spraying is done externally as well internally to create a chemical barrier and treated zone against ants. The chemical when dry, leaves a residue, thus when ants crawl over these surfaces, they come into contact with the chemical and are killed. The chemical used is not harmful to humans and will not stain the walls or flooring. Areas that are treated internally include: floor traps, skirting of the kitchen, room, beneath kitchen cabinets, etc.
